The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has denied sanctioning Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment in the National Assembly.

Notably, ODM lawmakers were among the 282 who voted to impeach Gachagua on Tuesday, October 8.

However, speaking in Mombasa, ODM deputy party leader Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir said the outfit had no resolution on the impeachment motion.

Nassir said the party MPs who voted in support of Gachagua’s ouster did it of their own volition.

"We have nothing to do with the impeachment. The MPs supported the motion on their own, and we respect it. It is not a party decision and was not sanctioned. We respect the independence of parliament and, in totality, the National Assembly and the Senate," said Nassir.
