ODM Dumps Caleb Amisi from Top Party Committee

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi says he has been kicked out of the ODM’s National Executive Committee. He confirmed the development in an Wednesday radio interview, February 11, after social-media posts spread a claim that he’d been ousted from the party’s key leadership body. He also presented an official letter purporting to announce the move.

Amisi says the party claims he held two roles at once county chair and ODM Deputy Organising Secretary and that this violated party rules. He reads aloud the letter stating he occupies both positions.

But he argues that was not done. He says that under the rules of the NEC, there has to be a formal meeting that discusses the issue, either by consensus or through a vote, and that the right for the member to defend themselves is accorded. “You can’t just send letters or WhatsApp notices,” he said. “There has to be a hearing.”

Amisi explained that he became Deputy Organising Secretary when the slot opened, something he says was called upon by the party leader Raila Odinga and approved by the committee then, when he was already serving as county chair.

If holding two posts was improper, he said, the party itself authorized it when he was appointed.

“Raila called me, asked if I could take the job, and I said yes. The committee approved it. I was already a county chairman,” Amisi said, suggesting that the timing of his removal fuels speculation of internal strife.

His exit comes ahead of a major ODM NEC meeting in Mombasa on Wednesday, where the party’s political direction will be debated and leadership changes, including possible new appointments or removals, could be on the table.

The moves underline rising tensions as ODM works to reorganize its structures and strategy.
