Former premier Raila Odinga has designated Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o to lead the ODM party during periods of his absence.

In a statement on Wednesday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the decision was reached due to the nature of the African Union Commission chairperson’s campaign, which requires Raila’s direct involvement.

Raila is seeking the coveted seat in the elections slated for February 2025 and is expected to traverse the continent seeking votes, a task that will make him unavailable to concentrate on ODM affairs.

"To the entire ODM family across the country, I assure you that we will continue to follow Baba's path as we elevate our great party to even greater heights. Chama iko imara!," said Nyong’o after his appointment.
