Nominated senator Karen Nyamu has been endorsed as “Nyakinyua” during a cultural ceremony held at Kenyatta International Conference (KICC),Nairobi.
The colorful event brought together different members of the Nyakinyua women’s group, known are for mentoring the young generation and performing traditional rites of the Agikuyu, among others. Nyamu, dressed in traditional attire, performed as cultural custodian, showcasing dances, songs and traditional rituals for her endorsement.
During the ceremony, Nyamu interacted with members of the Nyakinyua women’s group, who they blessed her and gave guidance as she prepares to run for the seat bid for Nairobi Woman Representative in the next general election in 2027.
The endorsement, featuring cultural performances, was also attended by political Kikuyu women living in Nairobi, among them Sabina Chege.
The elders of the Agikuyu crowned her as Agikuyu Nyakinyua elder, giving her blessing and encouraging her to value good leadership, respect and integrity for the people.
The ceremony emphasized the role of safeguarding heritage in influential urban settings.
