Motorists using Ngong Road should expect disruptions on Saturday, April 25, after the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) announced a temporary closure along Forest Line Road. The five-hour shutdown, running from 6:00 am to 11:00 am, will affect key sections including Embubul Junction, Tamfeed or Gataka Junction, and stretch up to the SGR Bridge on Olkeri Road.
According to a notice issued on April 23, the closure is meant to ease traffic flow and ensure safety during the annual Oloolua Forest Run 2026. The event, organised in partnership with the State Department of Irrigation, will see participants move across several connected routes, requiring controlled access to the affected roads.
The race route will cut through Embubul Junction to Gataka SGR Bridge along Forest Line Road, then link to Ushirika Road, Langata South, Matasia, and finally Ngong-Karen Road. With runners expected to occupy these sections for several hours, commuters have been advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes to avoid delays.
KeRRA has recommended diversions through the Cooperative-Gataka-Olkeri road from Magadi Road and the Matasia-Ngong-Karen corridor. The authority expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and called on residents to cooperate with traffic directives to support a smooth event.
The annual run is set to draw more than 2,800 participants, including environmental advocates and fitness enthusiasts. Beyond promoting healthy living, the initiative aims to raise KSh70 million to fund 25 kilometres of protective fencing around the 681-hectare Oloolua Forest, helping secure the green space for future generations.
