A tragic road accident in Naivasha has left one person dead and several pupils injured from Ngondi Junior School after a matatu carrying the students overturned while returning from an academic activity at Maiella Main Comprehensive School.
According to witnesses, the crash occurred on Friday night when the lost control due to failed brakes and plunged into a valley along Maiella Road in Naivasha.
The matatu driver died on the spot, while the injured students were taken to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, with parents and guardians waiting for updates on their children condition.
While police are yet to issue an update on the accident, the cause of the incident is still to be established and police are expected to investigate on the matter.
The incident has reignited over road safety in Kenya, often linked to reckless driving, overspeeding and poorly maintained vehicles.
Reports also indicate similar incident of students from Igumori Secondary School were involved in an accident near Karii Market in Mbeere North, Embu County, where the bus lost control and overturned on June 10.
NTSA has been on the run to intensify crackdowns on unroadworthy vehicles and the safety of passengers and speed limits.
