The Nairobi Regional Cross-Country Championships will take place this Friday at the Nairobi West Prison Grounds, drawing hundreds of athletes from across the city.
Barnaba Korir, Chair of Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi region, shared his anticipation ahead of the event, noting that the competition is expected to be fierce as athletes vie for spots in the National Cross-Country Championships.
“Athletes from the Nairobi region will showcase Kenya’s best running talent. Many of them train in Ngong’ and come from various parts of the country, bringing together diverse cultures and languages,” Korir explained.
The competition is expected to be intense, with elite runners competing for a place on the Nairobi team for the national championships.
At last year’s event, Stephen Lemayan and Evangeline Makena were crowned champions in the senior men’s and women’s 10km races, respectively.
This event follows last week’s National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Cross-Country Championships, held at Ngong’ Racecourse and the Prisons Staff Training College, respectively.
The National Cross-Country Championships will take place on February 8 at the Eldoret Sports Club.
