President William Ruto is reportedly mulling nominating Mutahi Kagwe as the Interior Cabinet Secretary.
The position fell vacant following the elevation of then-officeholder Kithure Kindiki to deputy president following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
It is reported that President Ruto has sent emissaries to engage Kagwe over the alleged nomination with hopes of striking a deal.
Kagwe served as the Health Cabinet Secretary during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure and he earned praise for brilliantly managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
He previously served as the Nyeri senator.
