Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been officially nominated as the sole candidate for both the National Chairperson and Presidential Flagbearer of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.

Museveni has been the president of Uganda since 1986 making him one of the longest serving presidents in the world.

At the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission Headquarters in Kampala, Hundreds of NRM supporters gathered in coordinated groups ,dressed in yellow party regalia NATS Singing songs of praise and pro Museveni chants ahead of his nomination as the movement’s chair and flag bearer.

The Movements chair confirmed that he stood out as the only candidate who secured over one hundred endorsement signatures from NRM National conference members which is the party’s minimum requirement UPS In his acceptance speech Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to stability ,economic transformation and youth focused programs.

His nomination follows extensive wealth creation tours under the parish development model [PDM] across all 18 NRM zones where his supporters credited his leadership since 1986 UPS .

This nomination effectively cements Museveni’s control over NRM ,marking the launch of his re-election campaign.
