Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka has been ordered to stop chairing the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education until the investigations into the complaints about his behavior are completed.

This development came after a letter from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to the Speaker of the National Assembly, describing the committee chairman’s alleged bribery, harassment, and intimidation of the Commission’s officials who had appeared before the committee.

The Commission stated that Wamboka, the committee chair, allegedly requested bribes as a prerequisite to granting an audience or providing a favorable consideration during the committee sessions.

The commission further accused him of exposing its officials to open hostility, harassment, and demeaning behavior during their appearance before the committee.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Speaker handed over the matter to the Powers and Privileges Committee for investigation. Consequently, Wamboka has been prohibited from chairing the committee sessions until the inquiry is finalized.  The Powers and Privileges Committee is to submit its report within 45 days.

In the meantime, on their part, senators have vehemently rebuked the recent assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and collectively expressed that the escalating instances of political violence are not only dangerous but also a ticking time bomb that needs to be addressed immediately if democracy is to be protected.
