The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has appointed Moses Wekesa as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer following a competitive recruitment process aimed at strengthening leadership within the country’s aviation sector.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the board said Wekesa brings extensive experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. His global exposure is expected to support the authority’s ongoing efforts to modernise and expand Kenya’s airport network.
Before his appointment, Wekesa served as Business Development Director at KenGen, where he played a key role in driving growth and improving operational performance within the energy utility. His background in engineering and infrastructure development is seen as a strong fit for his new role.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi, and additional postgraduate qualifications in finance and project planning from the University of Bradford.
The board also recognised Mohamud Gedi, the General Manager for Finance, for serving in an acting capacity during the transition period, ensuring continuity in leadership operations at the authority.
Wekesa takes over at a time when KAA is overseeing major infrastructure works, including the modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The upgrades are part of broader plans to position Kenya as a leading aviation and logistics hub in the region.
