Mombasa and Vihiga counties have withdrawn from the Kenya Open Boxing Championships, which kicked off Tuesday afternoon at Charter Hall in Nairobi.

The two counties cited financial constraints as the reason behind their last-minute pullout from the four-day national tournament.

Mombasa County Boxing Association Secretary General Chrispin Onyango expressed disappointment over the withdrawal.
“It’s unfortunate, but due to recent financial challenges, we’re unable to send a team to Nairobi for the Kenya Open Championships,” he said.

Vihiga County Boxing Association Chairman Daniel Andafu echoed the same concerns.
“We simply can’t cover the costs involved. Sadly, we won’t make it to the city this time,” he noted.

Their absence is a blow to the competition, which had drawn anticipation for showcasing talent from across the country.
