Mohammed Ali Distances Himself From Gachagua Impeachment Process

As exuberant Parliament starts debating impeachment motion to send Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua home, some legislators have defended their opposition to the move.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has revealed he is among the 54 MPs who declined to supported the ouster bid.

Ali slammed move terming it a political witch-hunt against the second in command.

“I have carefully read the charges in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi. In good faith, I do not support this cause of action and find it ill- intentioned seeking to demonize a Public Servant who has contributed immensely to this great country,” Ali said.

Adding “Let it be known that I, Mohamed Ali Mohamed, did not sign the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. God bless Kenya,”.

A record 291 MPs appended their signatures to the motion moved by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.

The mover cited 11 grounds ranging from gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, bullying, corruption, undermining the presidency among others to impeach Gachagua.

Parliament to debate the motion tomorrow.

The historic motion surpassed the threshold of 117 members.

 He tabled the motion yesterday and tomorrow the House will start debating the motion.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino are some of the legislators who distanced themselves from the motion.
