Esther Passaris

A tweet by lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has ignited a firestorm of reactions online after he made sensational allegations linking Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris to a Congolese man.

Miguna, known for his provocative online persona, posted an image purportedly sent to him by the unnamed Congolese individual, along with a cryptic message: “Choices have consequences.” He claimed the man had asked him to pass on warm greetings to Passaris, implying an alleged romantic entanglement.

The tweet quickly went viral, sparking a flurry of commentary, memes, and sharp criticism across the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

One user, @antony_kangethe, took a jab at Passaris’s role as an elected official, posting: “Protests regulator can’t even regulate her private parts.”

Another user, @Labella_Mafia95, questioned Miguna’s motives, asking: “Miguna alinyimwa na Passari au?”—a Swahili expression loosely translated to “Did Passaris deny Miguna?”

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, known for his flamboyant presence both offline and online, chimed in with a humorous take.

“Personally, when I log into X I usually wear a helmet and a bulletproof vest juu ile vita inakuanga huku.. wuehh!!” he wrote, acknowledging the often combative nature of discourse on the platform.

Passaris has not publicly responded to Miguna’s claims at the time of publishing.

The incident once again highlights the intensity and toxicity that often characterise Kenyan political debates on social media—where personal attacks, innuendos, and unverified claims frequently dominate public discourse.
