Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has said that the political rallies currently being spearheaded by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in Kisii will be instrumental in determining the shape of Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Taking to his official X account, Amisi described Matiang’i’s recent activities in Kisii as more than just regional mobilization efforts, insisting that they signal deeper political realignments and coalition formations on the national stage.
“Matiang’i Kisii rallies will determine a lot on the decision 2027 lineup,” Amisi posted.
The rallies, which have drawn thousands, mark Matiang’i’s dramatic return to the public eye and politics, with the former CS having declared his intention to run for president in 2027.

His ability to pull large crowds and mobilize support in the Gusii region is being closely monitored by both allies and rivals.
Matiang’i Aligns with Opposition Forces
Just days earlier, on April 29, 2025, Matiang’i made his political comeback official by attending a high-profile opposition meeting led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The meeting was attended by other political heavyweights including Martha Karua (PLP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), Mukhisa Kituyi, Justin Muturi, and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.
Karua later shared a photo of the leaders on X, writing:
“Welcoming our brothers @DrFredMatiang, @skmusyoka, @rigathi, and @EugeneLWamalwa.”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo also welcomed the new entrants, branding them as part of a growing liberation movement.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day,” Gachagua posted.
“This is the team that will komboa Kenya,” Kalonzo added.
Though Matiang’i’s entry into opposition ranks has been warmly received, his growing influence is expected to stir both excitement and tension within existing political formations as leaders jostle for space and strategy ahead of 2027.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, who had been Matiang’i’s point man during his time abroad, has already been involved in several opposition consultations — suggesting that Matiang’i’s inclusion in the People’s Loyal Coalition has been long in the making.
