Victor Wanyama’s future at Dunfermline Athletic is taking shape after the Scottish Championship side shared an update on their plans for the Kenyan midfielder.

Wanyama, who joined the club in March on a short-term deal, is now in line to extend his stay beyond the current season.

The former Harambee Stars captain was brought in to provide experience and leadership as the club battled relegation from the Scottish second tier. At the time of his arrival, Dunfermline sat second from bottom.

Following the conclusion of the season, the club managed to avoid the drop, finishing seventh in the 10-team league.

With their place in the division secured, Dunfermline is now preparing for a squad rebuild aimed at stronger performances next season.

While eight out-of-contract players are set to depart, Wanyama is not among them—suggesting he remains part of manager James McPake’s plans.

In a squad update posted on the club’s website, Dunfermline confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Wanyama and four other players: Chris Hamilton, Josh Cooper, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, and Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen.

The talks indicate a desire to offer the 33-year-old a new deal, effectively ending any speculation about a move elsewhere.

Despite making just four appearances, one of them a start, Wanyama appears to have impressed enough to earn a potential extension.

Dunfermline’s decision signals faith in the veteran midfielder’s ability to contribute more significantly in the upcoming campaign.
