Manchester United Fight Back at Selhurst Park to Reclaim Top-Six Spot

Manchester United overturned a half-time deficit — and their recent struggles at Selhurst Park — to climb back into the Premier League’s top six with a win over Crystal Palace.

Anthony Martial had scored in United’s last victory at this ground in July 2020, and the club hadn’t found the net here since Bruno Fernandes struck in January 2023.

So when Palace went ahead through Jean-Philippe Mateta’s twice-taken penalty after a dominant first half, few expected Ruben Amorim’s side to reverse their dismal record.

But as travelling supporters cheekily saluted Eric Cantona — whose notorious 1995 moment at this stadium led to a nine-month ban and a swiftly overturned prison sentence — United’s modern heroes finally delivered.

Under-fire striker Joshua Zirkzee justified Amorim’s decision to start him again, rifling in a fierce effort from a tight angle nine minutes after the break.

Mason Mount then swept Fernandes’ short free-kick pass into the bottom corner, beyond Dean Henderson’s reach.

The result ended United’s three-game winless run and denied Palace the chance to break into the top four.
