Police in Kisumu East have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of brutally attacking his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend at her current boyfriend’s home in Nyakbong’ village, Kamjulu.

The suspect, identified as Sebi Obonyo, is alleged to have stormed the house at around 4:45pm on Friday and stabbed the woman twice—once in the chest and another time near the ear—leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

According to police and eyewitness reports, the attack was driven by jealousy after the woman ended her relationship with Obonyo and moved on with another man.

The incident unfolded rapidly, with neighbours rushing to the scene after hearing the woman’s screams. Their swift intervention forced Obonyo to flee before he could inflict further harm. The victim, who was bleeding heavily, was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where medics say she remains in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Obonyo was enraged by the breakup and had been harboring resentment, culminating in Friday’s violent ambush while the woman was alone.

Local residents and police are now working together to track down the suspect, who is still at large. Authorities have vowed to bring him to justice as the community reels from the shocking attack.

“We are following crucial leads and will ensure the suspect is arrested to face the law,” said one of the officers involved in the investigation.

The case has sparked outrage among residents, with calls for justice and increased protection for women facing threats from former partners.
