Kenya’s women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, were eliminated from the FIVB World Championships following a 1-3 (17-25, 25-15, 15-25, 14-25) defeat to world No. 3 Poland in Phuket, Thailand.

Despite the loss, the Strikers showed improvement by taking a set off the European giants, a step up from their straight-sets defeat to Germany in their opening Pool G match on Saturday.

Kenya will now face Vietnam—also winless—in a classification match on Wednesday, with both sides already out of contention. Meanwhile, Germany and Poland, each with two wins, will battle for top spot in the group.

Head coach Geoffrey Omondi expressed disappointment but took some positives from the performance.

“Taking a set off the third-ranked team is something, but I wanted more. I really hoped we could push it to a fifth set—we might have had a chance. At least we have a day to rest and focus on Vietnam,” said Omondi.
