The M-PESA Sokoni Caravan has officially landed in Nairobi, marking the final and most anticipated leg of its nationwide tour celebrating 18 years of M-PESA’s impact on Kenyans’ lives.
The vibrant caravan kicked off its Nairobi journey in Kibera (Kwa DC) and is set to traverse key estates across the city including Waithaka Stage, Zambezi, Limuru Stage, and Wangige.
The grand finale comes after successful stops in the Coast, Rift Valley, Mt. Kenya, and Western regions.As part of the M-PESA @18 celebrations, customers will be treated to a variety of exciting gifts and rewards such as shopping vouchers, smartphones, electronics, merchandise, and cash prizes.
The popular “M-PESA or the Box” game show will also give participants a thrilling chance to walk away with surprise gifts. Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa expressed his appreciation to customers who have supported the platform over the years.“Since June, we have engaged with customers across Kenya. Now in Nairobi, we celebrate not only 18 years of M-PESA but also reaching 50 million subscriptions. I invite all our customers to join us in celebrating this incredible journey,” said Dr. Ndegwa.
Beyond the caravan tour, a week-long lineup of activities has been planned to enrich customer experiences and foster empowerment:
Tuesday: Safire Connect Forum at Strathmore University – A space for youth and entrepreneurs to explore themes around hustling, personal branding, and financial wellness.
Wednesday: Wezesha Mama by M-PESA Foundation at Michael Joseph Centre – Focused on empowering women’s groups through digital and financial literacy and providing access to seed capital.
Thursday: M-PESA Agent Awards – Celebrating top-performing agents.
Friday: Grow with Safaricom Business Forum – Equipping SMEs with business growth tools, held at the Michael Joseph Centre. Also on Friday, Safaricom Hook will host a youth market day at Greenspan Mall.
Throughout the tour, Safaricom will showcase a range of innovative products and services including Ziidi MMF, Taasi Till & Pochi, Fuliza ya Biashara, Pochi la Biashara, Lipa na M-PESA, Safaricom Hook, Emerald, and Masoko.
