Political leaders have been challenged to move away from endless political rhetoric and instead embrace a solutions-oriented approach to governance.
Speaking in Nairobi, former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President and Senior Counsel Nelson Havi called on leaders to be bold, courageous and articulate when advocating for matters of national importance. He urged them not to shy away from questioning the government and holding it accountable to improve service delivery to citizens.
Havi spoke exactly a month after being reinstated to the rank of Senior Counsel, joining 54 other advocates elevated to the prestigious position. A vocal legal mind known for his firm stance on constitutionalism and accountability, Havi said leaders must be willing to confront even “unquestionable” judicial and public officers to ensure they discharge their mandates responsibly.
He noted that corruption remains one of the biggest obstacles to Kenya’s development, warning that the country will not register any meaningful gains unless the vice is confronted decisively and collectively.
The former LSK boss, who contested the Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the last general election, said his political focus remains firmly on empowering young people, particularly those living in informal settlements. He identified vocational training as his top priority should he seek elective office again in 2027.
Havi further pledged to continue using his social media platforms to demand accountability and better service delivery from the executive, legislature and judiciary. He said the platforms would also be used to highlight opportunities for the less fortunate, especially the youth, as part of efforts to promote inclusive development.
His remarks come amid growing public frustration over governance, corruption and unemployment, with renewed calls for leaders to demonstrate integrity, accountability and practical solutions to Kenya’s challenges.
