Fans of Gilmore Girls’ were treated to a celebrity moment when Lauren Graham and Melissa McCarthy reunited at Variety’s prestigious Power of Women event held in Los Angeles.
The two actresses, known for their roles in Lorelai Gilmore and Sookie St. James, brought the warmth of Stars Hollow back to life as they celebrated McCarthy’s recognition as one of this year’s honorees.
Graham presented her longtime friend with her honoree award at the Beverly Hills, California, ceremony. McCarthy was celebrated specifically for her work with the Joyful Heart Foundation founded by fellow actor Mariska Hargitay.
The organization focuses on healing, educating and empowering survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.
In her acceptance speech, McCarthy praised Graham, recalling the lessons she learned during their time together on Gilmore Girls.
“Lauren was one of my first lessons in how to wield power with grace and patience. Thanks for that,” McCarthy said.
Graham praised McCarthy for the “empathy, intelligence, originality” and the “enormous amount of heart” she brings to every set. “Those same skills that make her an exceptional performer and a generous philanthropist in a truly powerful way.
