The Last Village Lodge in Machakos County has come out to clear the air after renewed online discussions over a zipline accident reportedly involving a former trainee identified as Ruth Moraa. This story, brought to the fore on social media once more, has re-ignited public debate that the lodge now wishes to directly address.

The statement issued on 25th November 2025 reads that The Last Village Lodge, where the country’s second-longest zip line is located, has always had an “impeccable safety record with no customer accidents.” Management insisted they take safety as an utmost policy with strict observations of operation procedures.

In a response to repeated posts by Ruth Moraa, in which she blamed the lodge for the incident that happened two years ago, the lodge explained that the accident allegedly occurred when Ruth and another person accessed the zipline without authorization. It says this was an “isolated case outside our standard procedures” and that the two rode on the zipline without following safety guidelines.

The lodge further outlined that such incidents, under normal circumstances, are preventable, categorizing this one as an exceptional breach by the individuals involved and not a failure of the safety systems put in place by the facility.

The lodge states that after the incident, it rushed Ruth to a Level 4 hospital in Kangundo for emergency care. However, doctors required consent from the patient, which her family reportedly refused, hence limiting what the lodge could do thereafter.

The matter progressed to a legal suit. Ruth Moraa filed a case at the High Court in Machakos, but the court referred it to the Employment and Labour Relations Court. With the case still pending in court, The Last Village Lodge said that further details are shielded from discussion as everyone must respect the process of the law.

Despite the backlash from online commentators and resurfaced accusations, the lodge has reassured the public that their zipline is safe, well-maintained, and run by trained staff. Safety, they insist, remains their top priority.
