The Kenya Ports Authority has alerted Kenyans about the circulation of fake job offer letters on social media. This has seen scammers using the KPA name to trick unsuspecting Kenyans into paying money.

In a statement across all their official channels, the Kenya Ports Authority stated that they had received information about the circulation of forged appointment letters, as well as requests for money.

According to the Kenya Ports Authority, the appointment letters circulating online are not authentic.

“The Kenya Ports Authority wishes to alert the public to fraudulent schemes involving individuals circulating fake offer letters and demanding payments under the guise of recruitment,” a statement from the Kenya Ports Authority read.

Some of the appointment letters circulating online look very official, complete with the Kenya Ports Authority logo. In one case, a job seeker received a letter informing them that they had been hired as an Administrative Assistant for a period of six years.

The fake letter also claimed that the employment would take effect on March 2, 2026, and would go on until February 28, 2032. However, it would be terminated before then if necessary. The scammers also asked for money to process documents before hiring. KPA clarified that it does not demand any money at any stage of recruitment.

The authority also clarified that it is indeed hiring at the moment. The recruitment process has not been completed. The authority also clarified that only successful candidates are contacted.

“KPA does not, under any circumstances, charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process, including applications, interviews or document processing,” read the statement.

If someone asks you to pay money to process documents or in any other name, it is a scam.

KPA also dissociates itself with losses incurred by victims. The authority claims it cannot be held liable in case you send money to scammers.

As people are looking for jobs due to high unemployment rates in the country, authorities are warning people not to be tricked by people who promise them employment. There are many youths looking for jobs.
