KPA Confirms Oil Tankers Set to Arrive Amid High Fuel Costs

There could be some relief for Kenyans in the coming days after Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) said several oil tankers are on the way to the country.

According to the report released by the authority, several vessels will arrive at Port of Mombasa and Port of Lamu in the coming days to bring petroleum products.

The ships are part of a larger schedule of vessels expected between April 14 and April 27. Some of them are already arriving, carrying petrol and diesel.

The news comes at a time when many Kenyans are dealing with the effects of increased fuel prices announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Although the fuel increase effects have been felt, particularly among matatu fares and costs, there seems to be some relief with the upcoming oil tankers. Although it is unlikely that prices of fuel will go down following the arrival of the oil tankers, it will at least improve availability of the products.

According to KPA, most of the ships expected to dock in the country over the next few days will be carrying several fuel types. Among them is petrol and gas oil that will be vital in supporting transport and businesses.

Apart from ships coming in to bring petroleum products, several other cargoes have been planned to dock at the port too

One of the vessels is MV Murray Express which will load around 800 animals in Mombasa to be shipped to the Gulf region.

Even with all these arrivals, many Kenyans are still concerned by the escalating costs of living. At the moment, most people are only hoping that the additional fuel would help stabilize matters in any way.
