The Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) has reminded everyone through a statement that only certified nutritionists and dieticians are legally allowed to provide nutrition and dietetics services in the country.

KNDI CEO Dr. David Okeyo said any person found advising or commenting on issues of nutrition but not licensed or trained in the field of nutrition and dietetics will be arrested and prosecuted for flouting the law.

He challenged media houses not to host in their platforms non licensed individuals to offer expert advice on nutrition.

Dr Okeyo’s warning followed the hosting of a non-practicing individual in a radio talk show who purported that Ugali was a useless meal.It, therefore, urges anyone offering these services without adequate training and licensing to desist as the situation is illegal and may be dangerous to public health.

Dr. Okeyo affirmed that Ugali which a staple food in Kenya is not only a meal but also a source of energy. He said KNDI is committed to safeguarding public health and will collaborate with media stakeholder to promote accurate and evidence-based information to the public.
