The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has released the official schedule for the October 2025 Internship Qualifying and Pre-Registration Exams.
In a release issued on Thursday, September 4, KMPDC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David G. Kariuki said that the exams will begin on Tuesday, October 21, with a candidates’ briefing.
The written examinations are to be conducted on Monday, October 27, while clinical examinations are to be conducted on Tuesday, October 28, and Wednesday, October 29.
To be eligible, the candidates must complete a four-month clinical internship at any approved Internship Training Centre. Confirmation of this should be given before registration.
The council also chose Monday, September 29, at 5:00 pm as the deadline of applications. Dr. Kariuki stressed that there shall be no late applications.
KMPDC also underscored that qualification and pre-registration forms the core in the guarantee of the integrity of Kenya’s healthcare professionals.
The examinations, it further noted, not only test the clinical skills, knowledge, and ethical background of the graduates but also offer a standard parameter among medical schools whose curricula may differ.
“Passing these exams is a condition of internship and final registration. It guarantees that only qualified, competent practitioners enter the system, something which is necessary for patient safety and public confidence,” the council said.
The move comes in the wake of the most recent medical profession controversy.
In July, the health ministry revoked the offer of internship to 306 pre-interns in nursing after discovering inconsistencies in the Nursing Internship Placement for the 2025/2026 batch.
Subsequently, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale reported that 42 unqualified students had been irregularly sent for internship placement by the Nursing Council of Kenya and 10 universities before they graduated.
Such actions violated laws of the Nursing Council Act and the Public Service Commission Act, triggering a clean-up to restore order in the internship placement exercise, the ministry added.
Having fixed the October exams, KMPDC now invites all deserving candidates to prepare and adhere strictly to the timelines to carry out a seamless exercise.
