Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi has been nabbed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following an alleged assault incident that was recorded on camera and shared online a few weeks back, with his name linked to the incident.
The legislator made his announcement of arrest on Tuesday afternoon of January 20th as he was intercepted by detectives along Kiambu Road towards the headquarters of the DCI.
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, being taken to DCI HQs,” read one of the messages that immediately appeared on the MP’s social media pages following the incidence.
Kibagendi later revealed that he was taken to Muthaiga Police Station, although he didn’t state the reason for his arrest immediately.
Although there were no official details available as of Tuesday evening, sources privy to the situation explained that the MP is wanted over an assault case reported late last year. Agreed information from Kenyans.co.ke indicates that this is tied to a situation recorded on cameras last December 2025 and which went viral on social media platforms.
Prior to this incident, senior security officials in Kisii have confirmed that detectives were researching the MP after an assault complaint was filed by a 38-year-old man on November 27.
The footage records what appears to be the moment the man, known as Kibagendi, approached another man seated at the corner of the food joint before proceeding to attack him in the presence of the other guests. They can be seen struggling as people try to intervene.
Although efforts were made to defuse the tense situation, the suspected attacker seemed agitated and even turned on one of the men attempting to intervene.
Later, in a statement, the complainant argued that the MP accused him of interfering in what were considered to be ‘private affairs’.
Since the incident occurred in broad daylight, with everything recorded on camera, the case would have been closed a lot earlier, according to the legal representatives of the victim.
In December, law enforcers in Kisii reported that the legislator had been directed to come voluntarily to help expedite investigations.
Kibagendi is expected to be returned to Kisii by Wednesday next week, 21st January, where he will be arraigned before a magistrate for plea pending the ongoing investigations regarding the case of assault.
