Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has confirmed that this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will be held in Kitui on 20th October, with the town undergoing a major facelift in preparation for the national event.

According to the Deputy President, Kitui is already benefiting from a massive infrastructure upgrade, including improvements in roads, electricity, and water supply.

Key among the projects are the rehabilitation of the Ithookwe Airstrip and the construction of the 10,000-seater Ithookwe Stadium, which will serve as the main venue for the celebrations.

The stadium, being built to international standards at a cost of Sh700 million, is currently 80 percent complete and is expected to provide long-term benefits for Kitui residents as a venue for sports tournaments and community events.

The airstrip, undergoing a Sh150 million upgrade, is also nearing completion.

During an inspection tour of the ongoing works in Kitui town, DP Kindiki urged the contractor to ensure the projects are completed in time for the celebrations without compromising on quality and standards.

He said the upcoming Mashujaa Day would not only honor Kenya’s heroes but also leave behind lasting infrastructure that will uplift the region’s development and opportunities.
