Deputy president Kithure Kindiki has welcomed the recent rapprochement between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, describing it as a pivotal moment for national unity and stability.
Speaking after the two leaders met, Kindiki highlighted the significance of their reconciliation in fostering collective focus on Kenya’s development agenda.
“The meeting between President Ruto and former President Kenyatta works well for national unity and stability. It enables the country to collectively address its development priorities,” Kindiki stated.
The relationship between Ruto and Kenyatta had been strained following the contested 2022 General Election, where Kenyatta supported former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who ultimately lost to Ruto.
The rivalry led to a period of political tension between the two former allies.
Kindiki expressed optimism that the dialogue signals a turning point, noting that the cooperation of the country’s leadership is critical to overcoming political divisions and ensuring progress.
“The nation stands to gain immensely when its leaders put aside personal differences and focus on the bigger picture of serving Kenyans,” he added.
