Kenya came together today to honor the late Senator William Cheptumo, CBS, in a solemn funeral service held at AIC Milimani in Nairobi.
The Speaker of the Senate, Amason Jeffah Kingi, led the tributes, remembering Senator Cheptumo as a man of wisdom, humility, and selfless service.
Senator Cheptumo, who passed away on February 16, 2025, was described as a patriot and a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the people of Baringo County and Kenya. Speaker Kingi reflected on his remarkable contributions in the Senate, where his calm demeanor and thoughtful arguments set him apart.
"He never raised his voice unnecessarily—he simply raised his argument," Speaker Kingi noted, highlighting Senator Cheptumo’s ability to foster dialogue and consensus for the greater good of the nation.
As the former Chairperson of the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations, the late senator was a passionate advocate for the well-being of security officers and victims of banditry.
His commitment to improving education, expanding electricity access, and enhancing infrastructure in Baringo County was deeply personal, not just political.
Beyond politics, Senator Cheptumo was celebrated for his generosity and mentorship. His quiet acts of kindness and willingness to listen to the concerns of ordinary citizens made him a beloved leader.
To his family, Speaker Kingi expressed deep condolences, stating, “The hills of Bartabwa have lost a son, but Kenya has gained a legacy.”
As Kenya bids farewell to Senator William Cheptumo, leaders urged the nation to uphold the values he stood for—humility, integrity, and service to humanity.
