Prudence Chepkirui, better known as King Kalala, has spoken openly about the tough reality she faced after exiting her role at NRG Radio. In an exclusive sit-down with Natalie Githinji on Beatz n Buzz, the outspoken media personality laid bare the emotional and financial weight of her decision.

“Leaving NRG wasn’t just a job move—it turned my life upside down,” she admitted. “There was a time I had to depend on my parents to pay rent, and it piled up to almost 100K. I couldn’t even travel home. It was rough.”Kalala had earlier taken to social media in 2023 to announce her departure, stating that while it was a difficult decision, she felt the need to explore new horizons and pursue different opportunities.

Reflecting on her journey during the interview, Kalala emphasized how the transition tested her resilience but also gave her space to reassess her creative direction.Natalie also brought up the current state of the media industry, especially in relation to emerging creatives. Kalala didn’t hold back in her advice. “People in media should take more chances on fresh talent. Whether someone is creative or has raw skill, they need just one shot to prove themselves. So don’t stop. Keep doing your best.”
