Museveni Swearing-in: Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has departed Kenya for Uganda to represent President William Ruto during the swearing-in ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Kindiki left Nairobi on Tuesday, May 12, ahead of the high-profile ceremony set to take place at the historic Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
In a brief statement shared on his Facebook page, the deputy president confirmed he would attend the event on behalf of Kenya and President Ruto.
“Departed Nairobi for Entebbe, Uganda to represent Kenya and President William Ruto during the swearing in and inauguration of President Yoweri Museveni, Kololo Ceremonial Grounds,” Kindiki said.
Uganda is hosting a major regional gathering for the inauguration, with several African heads of state, senior government officials and diplomats already arriving in Kampala.

Former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta is among the leaders who have already landed in Uganda ahead of the ceremony. Uhuru confirmed his arrival through a statement shared on his official X account, saying he had travelled to Kampala to join regional leaders and dignitaries for the inauguration event.
Other leaders and delegations already in Uganda include South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, as well as officials from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
Security in Kampala has also been heightened ahead of the inauguration, with Ugandan authorities putting in place elaborate protocol arrangements to host visiting dignitaries and international guests.
On Monday night, Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party staged a colourful drone show over Kampala as part of celebrations ahead of Museveni’s swearing-in.
Museveni was re-elected during Uganda’s January 15, 2026 General Election, extending his rule to four decades since first taking power in 1986 after a guerrilla war.
