Tension is brewing in the Senate following the controversial death of Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

Outspoken Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has called for the resignation of Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

In a heated session on Wednesday morning, Khalwale castigated CS Kipchumba for what he termed as a failure of leadership and negligence in handling national security matters.

His remarks came as Murkomen appeared before the Senate Plenary to address the suspicious circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death at Central Police Station.

“CS Murkomen, the National Security Council is charged with promoting and guaranteeing the security of this country,”Khalwale said.
“This is not just incompetence — it is an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans,” added Senetor Khalwale
“You have the audacity to come and face the parliament of Kenya and tell Kenyans 'you don’t see and you don’t know'. For the respect of this young man (Albert Ojwang), can you immediately resign. You are not fit to be in that docket,” said Khalwale.

The session underscores the mounting pressure on the Interior Ministry to account for the rising concerns over police brutality and custodial deaths.
