Car dealer Joseph Wambui, alias Khalif Kairo, has been freed after spending three days in custody after his arrest for allegedly not honoring a business agreement.

Kairo was arrested on Friday for failing to deliver two cars purchased by two of his clients, despite the complainants paying the full amount.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Monday, January 13, Kairo denied two fraud charges and was later freed on a KSh 2 million cash bail on Tuesday pending trial.

The court directed parties to try and seek an out-of-court settlement.

Earlier, Kairo’s lawyers, including Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, claimed that his prosecution was a result of business rivalry from older motor vehicle dealers who are out to frustrate upcoming dealers.
