The Kenyan rugby community, including the Kenya Lionesses and Kenya Sevens, is mourning the passing of former Kenya Lionesses Head Coach and Nakuru player, Felix ‘Ade’ Oloo who has passed away in a road accident in Washington, United States.
Oloo was a dedicated and respected Kenyan rugby coach who influenced beyond the pitch. His commitment was to nurture talent and strengthen the game’s grassroots and promote the growth of women’s rugby in Kenya. Popularly known as ‘Ade’ or ‘Mwalimu’ he played an important role in shaping young players, building a strong reputation both on and off the field, and supporting the growth of rugby across the country.
Oloo played with Nakuru RFC for approximately 15 years (2003-2017). During his time, he was part of the successful team that won the Kenya Cup titles in 2012- 13 and 2013-14 seasons , as well as the Enterprise Cup and other domestic competitions, including the Bamburi Super Series
He made an impact on the national stage where he served as head coach of both the Kenya Lionesses 7s and 15s teams, leading both women’s and men’s teams. His leadership helped the Lionesses qualify the Tokyo Olympics and compete in major tournaments such as the Africa Women’s’ competition, the Dubai 7s Invitational and the Elgon Cup.
Oloo’s legacy lies in the countless players as he inspired with discipline, teamwork and resilience. His passing is a loss not only to Kenyan rugby but also to the broader sporting community to which he dedicated himself.
