Kenya has recorded no new Ebola cases as the Ministry of Health prepares to release the first contacts who complete 21 days of monitoring from quarantine on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
In a press release issued on Thursday, October 22, Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth said all 14 samples collected and tested over the past 24 hours returned negative results for Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD).
The total number of confirmed cases remains nine, including the index patient who died on October 5. The eight patients receiving treatment in designated isolation facilities, comprising four family members and four healthcare workers, are stable and responding well to treatment.
The ministry confirmed that all 135 contacts linked to the first case have been traced, both within Kenya and internationally. Authorities have also notified relevant countries in line with international health regulations.
Health officials said investigations indicate that all confirmed patients had close contact with the first case between October 3 and 5. No infections have been linked to transmission within quarantine facilities.
Meanwhile, 709,093 travellers have been screened at Kenya’s points of entry since enhanced surveillance began, while 461 samples have been tested since the outbreak started in May 2026.
The ministry reassured Kenyans that travel, trade and public gatherings remain unrestricted.
Members of the public experiencing fever, unusual tiredness, muscle or joint pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding have been urged to seek immediate medical attention.
Suspected cases can be reported by calling the free 719 hotline or contacting the Jali WhatsApp chatbot on 0700 719 719.
