Kikuyu residents are set to benefit from the completion of the Nachu–SGR Road in Kikuyu Sub-County.
This is after the construction of the road entered a critical stage, signaling steady progress in infrastructure development in the area.
The project engineers now say that work has shifted to the laying and compaction of the Graded Crushed Stone (GCS) base.
This key structural layer is designed to support the road and withstand heavy traffic, particularly commercial vehicles serving the nearby Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
“This layer serves as the essential structural foundation for the roadway, engineered to withstand the heavy commercial traffic and transit loads associated with the nearby Standard Gauge Railway (SGR),” said Department for Roads in an update.
“Engineers on-site are prioritizing precise compaction and moisture control to ensure long-term durability and prevent future surface degradation.”
Once completed, the Nachu–SGR Road is expected to significantly improve connectivity in Kikuyu Sub-County by reducing travel times for residents and offering local businesses a direct, high-capacity route to the SGR terminal.
With the base layer nearing completion, the project is set to move into the asphalt surfacing phase, bringing the road closer to completion. Local leaders say the improved infrastructure will boost economic activity in Nachu and neighbouring Ndeiya areas by easing movement of goods, enhancing trade and supporting rising property values.
