The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the country over the next five days.
The forecast covers the period from Sunday, October 4 to Thursday, October 8, with rainfall expected in parts of the Coast, Central, Northern Kenya, Western, Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin regions.
In the Coast region, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale are expected to receive moderate rains mainly in the afternoon and at night throughout the period.
Lamu is forecast to receive light showers in the morning and at night, while Taita Taveta is expected to record light rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
In Northeastern Kenya, Wajir is expected to receive morning rains from Sunday to Thursday. Mandera will experience light rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, while Marsabit is forecast to receive light morning rains throughout the five days, with showers expected at night.
Isiolo is expected to record light afternoon showers on Sunday and Monday.
In the eastern parts of the country, Meru is forecast to receive morning rains throughout the period, alongside light afternoon showers.
Tharaka-Nithi and Embu are also expected to receive morning rains and afternoon showers during the five days.
Kitui, Machakos and Makueni are expected to receive light morning rains throughout the forecast period, with afternoon showers expected from Monday to Thursday.
In Central Kenya, Nyeri is forecast to receive light rains on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, with moderate rainfall expected on Tuesday morning.
Kirinyaga and Murang’a are expected to receive morning rains throughout the five days.
Nairobi and Kiambu are also expected to experience morning rainfall throughout the period, with moderate afternoon showers forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
Rain has been forecast to occur in some areas in Western and Rift Valley regions by the Kenya Met.
The counties of Trans Nzoia and Elgeyo-Marakwet have been warned to expect thunderstorms between Monday and Wednesday. The areas of Kericho, Bomet, Nandi and Baringo are expected to have the same trend.
For Kakamega and Vihiga counties, afternoon rains together with thunderstorms have been predicted between Monday and Thursday.
For Bungoma, there are warnings of afternoon rains to occur on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, while for Busia there are predictions of the same happening on Tuesday and Thursday.
Within the Lake Victoria basin, Siaya, Kisumu and Homa Bay counties are expected to have heavy rains especially in the afternoon.
This latest forecast follows as Kenya prepares to face the October-December rainfall season which is associated with an expected El NiƱo event.
