Lionesses beat Ivory Coast 44-0.

The national women’s rugby sevens team opened their Africa Women’s 7s campaign in emphatic fashion, overpowering Ivory Coast 44–0 at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

Japan–based speedster Janet Okello stole the show early, crossing the line three times to help the Kenya Lionesses establish a commanding 20–0 advantage at halftime.

The second half brought no relief for the Ivorians. Coach Simon Odongo’s side returned with even greater intensity, with Freshia Oduor scoring almost immediately after the restart and Sinaida Mokaya adding the conversion.

Edith Nariaka touched down next, followed by another successful conversion from Mokaya.

The onslaught continued as Faith Livoi powered through a stretched Ivorian defence, pushing the score to 39–0, before Nelly Chikombe sealed the win with a final try on the right wing.

The Lionesses now shift focus to their last Pool B match, where they face Ghana on Saturday evening.
