Kenya has begun preparations for the East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit (EARGHSS) 2025, which will take place from January 28th to 30th at Pwani University in Kilifi.
The summit aims to strengthen the region’s capacity to handle emerging infectious diseases and enhance public health systems.
At the launch event, Dr. Kamene Kimenye emphasized the need for regional collaboration in health security. In attendance were Dr. Emmanuel Nzai, Chairperson of the Vision 2030 Delivery Board; Dr. James Lawler, Director of International Programs and Innovation at the Global Center for Health Security, University of Nebraska Medical Center; and Judith Kose, Regional Program Lead for the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Center (Eastern Africa RCC) for Africa CDC, among others.
The summit will bring together experts, government officials, and private sector stakeholders to discuss strategies for health threat prevention, detection, and response.
It will also focus on promoting regional cooperation and addressing global health challenges, such as vaccine-preventable diseases and antimicrobial resistance.Key speakers included representatives from Kenya’s health sector, Vision 2030 Delivery Board, and the Africa CDC.
