Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace efforts, emphasising the need for locally driven solutions to address growing instability in the Horn of Africa.
This came after a high-level meeting between Kenyan officials and Dr. Annette Weber, the European Union Special Representative for the Horn of Africa.
In what was described as a candid and thoughtful consultation, Dr. Weber expressed concern over the sluggish progress in resolving Sudan’s conflict and the persistent political inertia in Somalia and South Sudan.
Both parties agreed that while international support remains crucial, more emphasis must be placed on empowering regional mechanisms to take the lead.
Kenya reiterated its belief that local actors, with their deeper understanding of the region’s history, cultures, and sensitivities, are best suited to deliver lasting peace and meaningful change.
The meeting marked yet another step in Kenya’s proactive diplomacy to stabilise the region through homegrown, African-led initiatives.
