The Kenya Defence Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (DESACCO) has concluded a month-long financial literacy campaign aimed at enhancing the financial well-being of soldiers deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) and those stationed at the Kenya Navy Base in Manda Bay.

The campaign, which reached troops across various Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) including Minjila, Witu, Mkunumbi, Baragoni, and the Lamu Port, was launched to equip soldiers with practical financial management skills and promote long-term economic stability.

Speaking at the launch, 2nd Brigade Commander Brigadier William Kamoiro underscored the initiative’s importance in boosting morale and financial independence among the troops.

“Financial literacy is vital in ensuring our soldiers are empowered to make sound decisions that enhance their lives both during and after service,” he stated.

Captain Dida Odhiambo echoed the sentiment, highlighting the link between financial wellness and mission readiness.

“A soldier who is well taken care of financially is a soldier who is focused on his mission,” he remarked, emphasizing the program’s role in uplifting the socio-economic status of military personnel.

Second Lieutenant Cheruiyot encouraged troops to fully embrace DESACCO’s digital platforms, which provide secure, real-time access to services such as transaction tracking and loan applications, regardless of location. This was particularly vital for those in remote or high-security deployment zones.

The program’s offerings included affordable personal, emergency, and development loans, in addition to promoting the Benevolent Fund—a financial cushion for members during critical times.

Soldiers expressed gratitude for the sessions, saying they now feel more equipped to navigate financial challenges and plan for the future.

The DESACCO team’s outreach has been widely praised for its hands-on approach and timely relevance, reinforcing the Defence Forces’ commitment not just to national security, but also to the holistic welfare of its service members.
