President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to hosting the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in February 2026, assuring that the country is making significant strides to ensure readiness for the continental event.
Speaking at State House Nairobi, where he met Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe and his delegation, President Ruto expressed confidence in the ongoing preparations.
“Kenya is pulling all the stops to be ready to host CHAN 2025. Renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium are progressing according to plan. We are determined to deliver a world-class tournament,” President Ruto said.
In addition to the main venues, the Ulinzi Sports Complex and Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, as well as Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, are undergoing upgrades to serve as training facilities.
The renovations, he assured, will be completed ahead of schedule to ensure seamless hosting of the games.
The President expressed gratitude to CAF for entrusting Kenya with the prestigious tournament, emphasizing that the country is eager to showcase its capacity to host major sporting events.
“I thank CAF for their show of confidence in Kenya’s ability to host CHAN. We are determined to rise to the occasion and deliver an exceptional tournament that will leave a lasting legacy,” he said.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe, accompanied by Fourth Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya and Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba, commended Kenya’s progress and affirmed the organization’s support for the preparations.
The meeting was also attended by key figures in Kenyan football, including Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed, FKF Vice-President McDonald Mariga, and CHAN/AFCON Head of Secretariat Mike Rabar.
