KeNHA has announced that Thika Road will be closed for two months for the construction of another pedestrian footbridge.
The construction is of the footbridge at Kihunguro is expected to take two months.
KeNHA said in a notice that the construction will take place from the 20th of October to the 20th of December for the 2025 year.
The Thika and the Nairobi bound Kihunguro service lanes will be closed.
KeNHA explained the need for construction as the work needs to be done for the column bases and stub columns for the footbridge.
The footbridge is seen as a footbridge as it is for pedestrian safety to cross the busy highway.
The direct closure statement was as follows; ‘The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Thika Superhighway (A2) Road at Kihunguro will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi and Thika-bound service lanes from Monday, 20th October, 2025, to Saturday, 20th December, 2025.’
Traffic police and road marshalls will help ease and improve safety traffic in the construction site.
Motorists are to avoid using closed lanes and follow the detour routes.
Drivers using the Thika route are advised by KeNHA to stay on the main highway, especially around Kihunguro.
