The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Veterans Association has officially launched its Makueni Chapter, led by Former Chief of Defence Forces General (Rtd) Jeremiah Kianga and Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo.

The chapter, part of a wider devolution initiative, aims to bring services closer to retired military personnel under the Military Veterans Act, Chapter 199A. The Act extends key KDF benefits—such as healthcare, financial support, and education—to veterans and their dependents.

General (Rtd) Kianga urged veterans to remain disciplined and productive, while Major General (Rtd) Tumbo reaffirmed the military’s commitment to veterans’ welfare. Brigadier Moses Leriari also highlighted support schemes including DEFMIS, DESACCO, and DEFOCA.

Makueni becomes the second regional chapter after Kitui, further advancing national efforts to honour and support military veterans. Local veterans, led by Brigadier (Rtd) J.N. Kavizi, pledged continued service to the nation, stating they are “retired but not tired.”
