Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma at a past event

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has warned politicians from ODM strongholds who are defecting to the ruling UDA party in search of elective seats ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

In a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday night, February 4, 2026, Kaluma said such leaders should not expect to outsmart the planned ODM–UDA political arrangement.

“Those political rejects from ODM party strongholds who joined UDA as aspirants for various seats should know we are too sharp for their self-seeking chicanery. Government is led from Parliament,” Kaluma said.

The ODM lawmaker said the pre-election coalition between ODM and UDA is focused on maintaining control in key regions and strengthening numbers in Parliament.

Kaluma explained that the coalition is targeting at least 75 per cent of parliamentary seats in the next General Election.

“The ODM-UDA pre-election coalition must have at least 75 per cent of the MPs in the next election,” he stated.

To achieve this, Kaluma said the two parties will avoid competing against each other in their respective strongholds.

“For this to happen, ODM will not field gubernatorial and parliamentary candidates in UDA bases, just as UDA will not field candidates in ODM strongholds, to avoid splitting votes and allowing competing political formations to win critical leadership seats,” he added.

Kaluma said the strategy is aimed at blocking rival parties from taking advantage of divided votes.

The MP also restated conditions he believes must be met for the ODM–UDA agreement to succeed.

Speaking to the media on January 1, 2026, Kaluma said ODM is open to forming a strong pre-election coalition but will retain its identity.

“Once we are done with those negotiations, and I hope they end well, we will go into a pre-election coalition so that we have a strong voice in the government that will be formed. If we don’t agree, then we will run for elections as ODM,” Kaluma said.

He insisted that ODM must remain a distinct political party and that its strongholds must be protected through proper zoning and seat allocation.

Kaluma warned that any breach of these conditions would force ODM to withdraw from the agreement and collapse the coalition talks.
