Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has dismissed rumours that he is yearning for the Cabinet Secretary job for Internal Security and National Administration.

The position has been vacant after its recent holder Kithure Kindiki was nominated and confirmed as Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua has since moved to court to challenge the ouster.

“While I appreciate any opportunity to serve Kenyans, I want to clarify that I am not among those seeking this position, nor has the ODM Party expressed interest in filling the role with another party expert,” Mohamed stated.

Junet also highlighted his recent appointment as the leader of the Minority Party in the National Assembly, describing it as “an equally significant constitutional role in our governance framework.”

He noted that President William Ruto has made strides towards inclusivity by appointing four senior ODM officials as Cabinet Secretaries, part of a broader initiative to enhance national cohesion and service delivery.

The Interior CS position remains crucial for overseeing security and national administration, prompting speculation about potential candidates to fill the vacancy.

“I hope this clarification settles the matter and allows us to focus on more pressing issues,” Mohamed added, urging attention to the current political landscape as it evolves following Gachagua’s impeachment and ongoing efforts for a more inclusive governance framework.
