Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has fired Geoffrey Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service in a reshuffle affecting three senior county officials.
The changes were communicated in a circular dated Wednesday, October 21, 2026, signed by County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr Machel Waikenda. The letter, referenced NCC/CS/003/2026, directed that the changes take effect immediately.
Mosiria’s removal comes days after he publicly expressed interest in contesting the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Zipporah Njeri Mwangi has been assigned to take over his responsibilities, serving as Acting Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service alongside her existing duties in City Culture, Arts and Tourism.
Two other senior officials were also affected by the reshuffle. Eng Samwel Njogu was reassigned as Acting Chief Officer for Mobility, while Godfrey Akumali was moved to the Housing and Urban Renewal docket and additionally appointed Acting Chief Officer for Lands.
The county government did not issue a separate public statement explaining the changes, with the circular only directing that the reassignments take effect immediately.
Mosiria’s political ambitions
Before his removal, Mosiria had indicated that he was considering challenging for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027. He said he would contest the position if he secured endorsements from two senior political figures, signalling a possible political showdown ahead of the next General Election.
Although he had not announced an immediate resignation, Mosiria acknowledged that his tenure in the county administration was nearing its end. Sakaja has not publicly stated whether Mosiria’s political ambitions influenced the decision to remove him from his position.
