Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei secured a dominant victory at the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday, shattering the course record and setting a new personal best.

The 32-year-old athlete finished the race in an impressive 1:04:11, marking her second consecutive win at this event.

As the former world record holder for the women’s half marathon, Jepkosgei couldn’t contain her joy, describing the achievement as a moment to cherish for years to come.

“I’m beyond excited this year… it’s been three consecutive years of success. Winning here, breaking the course record, and setting a personal best… I’m so happy in Barcelona,” Jepkosgei shared.

The 2019 London Marathon champion is already looking ahead to a potential third victory in Barcelona, as the city continues to hold a special place in her heart.

“I’m excited to come back next year because Barcelona has become one of my favourite places. Setting a PB here every year is a wonderful accomplishment, and I’m incredibly grateful,” she added.

In the men’s race, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo made headlines by setting a world record of 56:42, becoming the first man to run 21km in under 57 minutes.

Spain’s Josep Sola Benitez finished in second place with a time of 57:38, while his compatriot Ivan Serrano Hernandez took third at 57:59.
